Maria was born in Mission, Texas to immigrant parents. Her parents are originally from Agualeguas, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. In 1999, she and her family moved to Morton, Mississippi. When living in Morton, she knew she wanted to help her immigrant community. From a young age, she began translating for many people at school, doctor offices, at appointments, and many more places. She knew she wanted to help her community once she grew up.
In 2013, Maria started her legal career working for an immigration law firm as a receptionist and later moved up as a paralegal. She has worked on a wide variety of immigration cases, including asylum, adjustment of status, special immigrant juvenile status, cancellation of removal, VAWA, and much more. She has also prepared petitions and motions to be filed with USCIS and Immigration Court.
Maria also has experience in family law where she worked for years preparing and filing guardianship’s, divorces, and custody cases. She has also interpreted in many courts throughout the state of Mississippi. She is bilingual and speaks Spanish fluently.
